Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 1, 2026

FilmCatch is a location-based game for discovering and collecting movies, operated by Myers Entertainment LLC, a Florida limited liability company (“FilmCatch,” “we,” “us”). This policy explains what information we collect when you use the FilmCatch app and the filmcatch.app website, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. In summary: we collect the information needed to operate the game, your location is processed in real time and is never sold, and you may delete your account and all associated data from within the app at any time.

1. Information we collect

Information you give us

  • Account information — your email address and password (stored as a secure hash) when you create an account.
  • Profile information — an optional display name, bio, and profile or showcase photos you choose to add.
  • Content you create — notes on films, trade messages, and other content you submit in the app.
  • Support communications — messages you send to support@filmcatch.app or through in-app feedback.

Information created by playing

  • Game data — your collection, catches, currencies, level and XP, streaks, achievements, sets, wishlist, marketplace listings, auction bids, trades, gifts, and friend connections.
  • Location data — your device’s precise location while the app is in use (see Section 2).
  • Purchase records — if you make an in-app purchase, Apple processes the payment and we receive a record of what was purchased for your account. We never see your card or bank details.

Information collected automatically

  • Device and technical data — device model, operating system version, app version, language, IP address, and a push notification token if you enable notifications.
  • Diagnostics — crash reports and performance data (via a crash-reporting service) so we can find and fix bugs.
  • Advertising identifiers — if you choose to watch a rewarded ad, our advertising partner may process your device’s advertising identifier as described in Section 4.

2. Location data

Location is what makes FilmCatch work: films spawn at real places around you, and the app checks whether you are within catching range. We handle it as follows:

  • we process your precise location only while you are using the app — we do not request background location access;
  • your location is used in real time to place spawns near you and to verify catches;
  • we do not maintain a history of your movements, and your precise location is never shown to other players;
  • the game stores coarse spawn-area information (which map areas contained films) to run the world — this describes the map, not your whereabouts;
  • we never sell your location data.

You can withdraw location permission at any time in iOS Settings, though the map gameplay will not function without it.

3. How we use information

  • to operate the game — showing nearby films, syncing your collection, and powering trading, auctions, gifting, leaderboards, streaks, and events;
  • to send push notifications you have opted into (such as trade activity or streak reminders) — you can turn these off at any time in iOS Settings or in the app;
  • to credit rewards for optional rewarded ads you choose to watch;
  • to keep the game fair and safe — detecting cheating, spoofing, and fraud, and acting on player reports;
  • to fix bugs and improve performance using diagnostics;
  • to send you occasional emails about FilmCatch — such as launch news and event announcements — which you can opt out of at any time via the unsubscribe link in any such email;
  • to respond to your support requests;
  • to comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party marketing.

4. Advertising

FilmCatch offers optional rewarded video ads — you may choose to watch a short ad in exchange for an in-game reward. Use of this feature is entirely optional. These ads are served by Google AdMob. When an ad is shown, Google may process device information such as your IP address and your device’s advertising identifier to serve and measure the ad, as described in Google’s Privacy Policy.

  • Where Apple’s App Tracking Transparency framework applies, ads are served on a non-personalized basis unless you have granted tracking permission through the iOS prompt.
  • You can limit ad personalization on your device at iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking, and → Apple Advertising.
  • We do not currently show banner or interstitial ads, and we do not share your game data with advertisers for their own marketing.

5. How information is shared

  • With other players — your display name, avatar, level, and public collection statistics appear on leaderboards, public profiles, trades, and auctions. Your email address and precise location are never visible to other players.
  • With service providers — the companies listed in Section 6 process data on our behalf to operate the Service, subject to contractual and legal obligations.
  • For legal reasons — where required by law or legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of players, the public, or FilmCatch.
  • In a business transfer — if we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred with the business; this policy would continue to apply to it.

We never sell your personal information.

7. Data retention

We keep your information while your account is active. If your account is inactive for an extended period, we may delete it after attempting to notify you at your account email address. Support communications are retained as long as needed to resolve the matter and for a reasonable period afterward. Diagnostics are retained on a rolling short-term basis.

8. Deleting your account

You can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time, from inside the app: Settings → Data → Delete account. Deletion is immediate and irreversible — your collection, currencies, profile, messages, and personal data are removed from our production systems, and residual copies in backups are purged in the normal course, typically within 30 days. Records we are legally required to keep (for example, evidence of a past purchase) may be retained where the law requires.

9. Your rights and choices

  • Access, correction, deletion — you can view and edit your profile in the app, delete your account entirely (Section 8), or email us for a copy of your data.
  • Notifications — opt out at any time in iOS Settings or in the app.
  • Location — controlled by iOS permissions.
  • Ad tracking — controlled by the iOS tracking prompt and Settings (Section 4).

If you are in the EEA, UK, or a similar jurisdiction: you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or object to our processing of your personal data, the right to data portability, and the right to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority. Our legal bases for processing are performance of our contract with you (operating the game), our legitimate interests (safety, anti-cheat, and improving the Service), your consent where required (optional ads, notifications), and compliance with legal obligations.

If you are a California resident: you have the right to know, delete, and correct personal information we hold about you, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. We do not sell personal information. To the extent optional rewarded ads involve “sharing” as the CCPA/CPRA defines it, you can prevent it by declining the iOS tracking prompt (Section 4). You can exercise these rights in the app or by emailing support@filmcatch.app.

10. Children

FilmCatch is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us at support@filmcatch.app and we will delete it.

11. Security

We protect your information with industry-standard measures: encryption in transit (TLS), hashed passwords, row-level access controls on our database, and least-privilege access to production systems. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security; if we learn of a breach affecting your personal data, we will notify you as required by law.

12. International users

We are based in the United States and process data on servers located in the United States. If you use FilmCatch from outside the US, your information is transferred to and processed in the US, where privacy laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the Service and the law evolve. If a change is material, we will provide reasonable notice — in the app or by email — before it takes effect. The Effective date above reflects the current version.
